Back Rollin'.

I went & checked out a derby practice at Pasco tonight. It was awesome. They are a brand new league. By new I mean their league started in Sept. 2011 and they hosted their first home bout on March 2012. These ladies were awesome! They ran a great 2 hour practice. I was hot, sweaty, tired, & excited. I HAVE to get back on my wheels! With our insurance changing and us moving, my knee & shoulder work is put on indefinite hold. I'll have to go through evals and everything all over again. May as well give them something REALLY worth fixing, right. Go big or go home I always say!!
So interesting thing.... they asked me to drop in on their scrimmage with Pinellas too. I'm way out of shape, but I really wanna. I miss my skates so damn much! We'll see after the Thursday practice, and by we'll see I mean let's see how sore I am after skating these two practices!LOL!

I'm back baby! (for now)

A Buy Her Give Away!

Hey everybody! Do you like the Avengers Movies? You know Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and the like? Well, their first movie ALL TOGETHER is coming out on May 4th. (Here is where I say how jelly I am of my UK friends who got to see the movie itself on 4/27 because the premier date was moved up over there!) Well, to celebrate, we ladies at Buy-Her are having a give away, and OH MY... what a give away. Our main girl Liza Rae put together a little post about how she loves the Avenger movies, and really, with RDJ, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, etc.... who WOULDN'T love them?? Wink wink! The prize pack has a lot of stuff in it including a shirt, buttons, special 3D glasses.... just tons of cool stuff. And as I write this....

THERE ARE ONLY 16 ENTRIES!!!!

You guys need to haul butt over there to get in on this action because if ya win, you will look freakin' AWESOME going to opening night with all that gear!

DO IT NOW!

I Haz Shelves!

I actually got two kinds of storage shelves today. I was originally was going to get just the floating shelves, but then I saw these rails above and I thought "Wow! I'm gonna use those to hang my pots!" It worked out awesome!

Then HHH came home and hung my shelves in the office. Nice, right? The color matches the desk  and I christened them with  my signed copy of Alton Brown's first book from his Good Eats series. I'll unpack other stuff and set things out as I go.... But so far, things are looking great!

Yay IKEA!

Addicted!

OMG I have become addicted to IKEA! Why the hell didn't someone warn me? I mean, who can resist those low prices? Who wouldn't want tons of stuff at incredible savings?

WHO, I ASK YOU?!!?

I am trying to put together my office so I can write more regularly and I need shelves. I have a shit ton of stuff, knick knacks, and books that I had on shelves before my great charity purge of 2012 when said shelves went bye bye to someone else who might have needed them. Now I need shelves again so I can UNPACK my stuff.  My books look so lonely in an old, cardboard box. I checked several stores and IKEA has what I need. A 6 foot, floating shelf at IKEA costs $15. At Home Depot, they cost $35. At Bed, Bath, & Beyond it doesn't even come in a 6 foot size. At Lowe's it costs just as much as Home Depot. I could go on and on.... but I won't. I just want a frickin' set of 3, 6 foot shelves, mounted on my wall.

Is that so much to ask? I don't think so. So tomorrow I will be trekking to IKEA to get my shelves.

Here's hoping I don't become even MORE addicted!

Unpacking Ammo!

  • I have been unpacking for the last 4 days. I have most of the stuff situated, but there are boxes still in the extra room that is "supposed" to be my office. You know... a place I can go, shut the door and type to my heart's content? Yeah, that. Basically because  I have a door to shut, I am ignoring it.
  • HHH had to go out on an emergency call last night to liberate an old lady from one of the elevators that got stuck. Yes, we have an elevator in all the buildings here because it used to be a 55+ community & old folks can't get their Jazzys up the stairs!! Apparently every once in a while, they tend to get stuck. So, excuse me wile I start using the stairs more often!
  • Aunt Flo hates me. I know this because she showed up right as we were loading up the moving truck to move to the new place. Kiss my ass Aunt Flo.
  • Even though the weather was crap for moving, the rest of the time it has been BEAUTIFUL! I have had the windows open. I can just tell living closer to the ocean is making me feel better!
  • We just got our lease signed yesterday. LOL! HHH and the new office staff has been trying to fix all the fires left by the old staff that was here before. So Wednesday I get to try to put them in a new school system for a month. Yippee!
  • IKEA need to come to my house and fix it up, namely the  kitchen & living room.
  • Apparently "Roller Derby Chic" isn't a viable decorating style.
  • No one has taken my up on my offer of a $25 gift card to name my new Foursquare home spot! Come on people! It's a free $25. I'd even be willing to SEND you $25 cash.
  • Ok, that's all for now.

We Moved!

Yeah... I haven't written in a while....

Moving during a sever weather watch/warning makes for a busy weekend.

I'll be back again soon. Eventually. Some day.

Duh, Winning!!

Just a small note because I am still packing like a mad woman....

I WIN BITCHES!!!

Yup, I went to check my Pinterest board to see if the slow ass folks at Pinterest had done anything about the high school drop out's rudeness and lo and behold.... that whole asinine board was GONE!  I was ecstatic to see this! I really want to thank everyone again for the awesome support I got. You people are totally fabulous in my book! Whether it was Pinterest doing their job (I still haven't heard from them at of this date.), or the fact that so many people called her out on her awful board made her delete it all together, I'm just glad it's gone and I sincerely hope that girl thinks about what she pins next. Being a cocknobbler to people isn't cool. EVER!

I'm Lazy. You Get The Bullets!

  • Today is the day I give 3/4 of what I own to charity because I have a fully furnished apartment with 5 bedrooms waiting for me. And we're not just talking furniture. We're talking dishes, utensils, pots, pans, clothes, toys,... the whole kit & kaboodle!
  • I just saw notice that there is going to be severe weather all weekend in florida. Well, of COURSE there is going to be horrible weather this weekend. I have to move my household  then. They are predicting thunderstorms, hail, winds up to 60 mph, and possible tornadoes. Thanks Mother Nature. Thanks alot.
  • I miss my husband.
  • I miss my husband even more when it's late at night, I go to the bathroom, and there's a spider as big as my frickin' hand between me & the porcelain throne!! Especially when I'm blind   because I didn't have my glasses on. SUPER especially when not ten minutes before I went pee in the dark and that little spider bastard was probably right next to me on the floor. FML!
  • I have way too much stuff. No, like I gave away tons of shit already even BEFORE the charity came to get the furniture et all, and really, when I think about it... my stuff is really my cloak that protects me from my fears. At least I'm not a closet compulsive shopper, but if it wasn't for us moving so much, I'd basically be a freaking hoarder! I gotta try to find a better way to deal with my issues. I don't wanna end up on TLC!
  • My kids have NO IDEA how to pack. They also have no idea how to purge their room of junk.
  • Dick Clark died. I know this has nothing to do with our moving, but it had to be said. When he was being interviewed by Oprah a long while back, Mr. Clark said something that resonated with me for the rest of my life. "Music is the yearbook of our lives." Think about it. You're driving along on a spring afternoon or you're in a store shopping and suddenly you hear a song either on the radio or in the background.... and you are transported to a memory of what was most important when you heard that song,... a school dance, a holiday family get together, hanging out with friends. Truer words were never spoken. Farewell Mr. Clark. I'm sure there is a Bandstand in Heaven and you're rockin' it out!
  • I am going to miss my ducks. The fact that the mama ducks would hatch their brood and wait on my doorstep  with the babies to be fed is just too cute not to miss. I also have them to thank for my one and only front page photo on the I Can Haz Cheezeburger site, "Squee". Think HHH would notice me packing up a flock of ducks?
  • And last, I'm a little sad I haven't had one entry into the Name My New Four Square Home contest. I don't want to beg, but come on ya'll! Name my new home on 4Square!!!
  • I need to go to bed. Good night.

Names

So, as we get ready to move on, I have to start looking up names for stuuf. Names for the schools over there, names of the nearby amenities we will need to make use of, street names, park names, etc etc etc....

And the most important name of all...

What to name my new Foursquare spot for where we will live! I'm gonna have to think of something, but the move and FCATs and everything else is just  frying my brain. HELP! Can you think of anything better? Guidelines are...

  1. Has to have Blondefabulous in the name.
  2. Must make mention of being a rollergirl, either directly or in passing.
  3. Can be funny or dramatic... whatever.
  4. Entry into this naming gig will net you a $25 gift card.
You have till April 27th. After that I will look all the names over and pick the one I like best.

Aaaaaannnnnndddddd......... GO!

Decisions.

  • Last week at the V house.
  • I have been packing up since last week.
  • The new office staff has been sending the craptastical maintenance staff they hired to spy on us to see if we're leaving yet, or as I like to call the Larry Moe & Curly.
  • I have most of my stuff packed up, but have been putting off packing up the kids room. 3kids+1 room = OMG WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!??!
  • I wish I could just go get a truck right now and load up and go, but the damn FCATs are going on. Sigh.
  • I can't wait to get there & check out the derby possibilities up there. Since I have to wait for new insurance, I may as well throw myself into skating again! Pasco has a team. I'd be close.
  • I'm on the 3rd floor this time. No where NEAR any of the little asses who's parents never watch them. Today they are playing with BB guns out front of my place.
  • I wish I could move TODAY!
  • That's all.
  • I have to go pack some more.

Our New Place.

Eldest's bedroom.

Kitchen/Dining room.

Living room w/new hardwood flooring.

Junior's room. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom.

Guest bedroom/my office.

Laundry room/office. Yes, those are coin operated washer/dryer machines! LOL! They will move out when I bring my own machines in.

So that's the new place. We are leaving almost everything behind except our personal belongings. I have called several charitable organizations to donate our stuff to. There were times when folks helped us out, hopefully our stuff will help someone else out.

Here's to new beginnings!

Weekender

Boy, am I ready for this week to be over. I have been cleaning out every closet in our tiny apartment, making trips to the Goodwill drop off, returning library books so they don't accidentally get packed, and washing clothes in anticipation of going to see HHH at our new place in NPR. He started work there on Monday and to facilitate this without going broke because of $4 gas, he is staying there and the kids and I are still in Valrico. Also, the FCATs are next week as well and I wanted the kids to take them before we moved.
So today, after school, we are packing up some stuff and heading to NPR for the weekend. Can't wait to see HHH. I'll take photos of the new place too.

Choices

A rally for Trayvon Martin; George Zimmerman in an recent undated photo (AP)

Choices.

We all make them. We make them every day. We decide whether to get up and go to work, or to stay in bed & lose our job. We decide what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, and what to do. Do I take the interstate or the expressway? Do I let that guy merge in front of me or dick him over because he waited too long?

Choices.

We choose good or bad. Right or wrong. Yes or no.

Last month a boy was shot. He died. There were plenty of choices that were made that night. Go to the store or stay home. Call the police or go commando. Carry a cell phone or carry a gun. Confront or wait & watch. It ended in tragic horrible fashion. The vultures came out of the woodwork, frothing everyone into a rage. Mistakes were made on both sides of the justice line. Now, charges have finally been brought and someone is finally in jail, but that won't be the end of it. The Nancy Graces, Fox News, and Al Sharptons will stir this pot till it boils over. Then there will be bad choices. Riots, fights, name calling on social media outlets, etc...

Choices.

One man's choice to take the law into his own hands ended a young man's life and my idyllic existence in Florida because now when I meet a new friend on line through Twitter or Pinterest or Facebook it's never "Where is Valrico?" but "How far is Valrico from Where Trayvon was shot?"

Can we all choose to keep this from happening again?

I Hate Moving!

  • It's annoying.
  • I have to go on an Odyssey for boxes.
  • I'm too cheap to buy boxes.
  • You have to rent a truck.
  • You have to pack up all your belongings.
  • No matter how well you label the boxes, shit ends up disappearing!
  • Something will get broken.
  • Moving my plants is always a dirty whore.. I mean chore.
  • Unpacking is a bitch.
  • If I absolutely need something RIGHT NOW, it will be in the last box at the bottom of said box.
  • My kids will always think their toys are always #1, therefor those will get packed by them before socks, underpants, & clothes.
  • My cat will fruit out at moving.
  • The cat will spend the first week finding all the hiding places in the new house, usually where I am trying to put something away.
  • I'm tired.
  • I always get hurt when moving. (remember the knee from last April? I DO!)
  • I always end up thinking I have too much shit!(PURGE!!!)
  • All charitable organization who take donations are shitty at scheduling those pick ups. I wanna be charitable, but they won't let me!!
  • I always pray this will be the last move.

Standards II

I would like to thank everyone who has read this and either commented, reported, or in anyway spread the word about my little situation. I appreciate all the good juju. This may seem like some insignificant teenager being an asshat, but in a way we can make it into a learning experience for that kid by standing up against her hateful BS. Mine wasn't the only photo on that shitty pin board and even if it gets taken down, those others will still be there. It's up to us to teach the next generation. Discrimination isn't right in ANY form.

And again because it should be said!

I know I wrote this yesterday, but it bears repeating.

I was on Pinterest Saturday, when I noticed that someone had taken one of my photos in my "Get To Know Nicole" Buy-Her board and repinned it to their board. Thinking it was perhaps a fan of derby or a loyal reader from Buy-Her, I scrolled down to see the title of the pin board. It said in all caps... NOT OK. My heart sank. I looked at the board's other photos and saw this pinner created a board specifically to belittle the pins(people) on it. There were old people, overweight people, strange looking people,.... and me. The photo was the one that was taken on team photo day for the Bombers 2011 season. I was completely covered. the only bare skin showing was my arms! The caption given to a photo I was proud to have taken was "She should have standards." What?? Uh, I have standards, lots of them! I was just so incensed that first I emailed Pinterest Help and then I reported the pin as an attack on a person or individual. After that, I put out the word that some high school drop out was harshing on my being a derby girl, because really... that's what it felt like. She was passing judgement on me because of what I was wearing and what I looked like. Nevermind I am a strong, fit woman at the age of almost 40 participating in an extremely physical sport. Nevermind that I had some of the best hits of my life that season. Nevermind that I just got done being judged for my looks by a major theme park a week or so ago. I was angry. I thought to myself "What gives this young girl the right to tell me I need to have standards?" After putting out the call on FB and Twitter for people to go look at what she posted on her pin board, many folks shared their feelings on the subject on that very same pin.

Wow. Such strong words from a person who doesn't know this lovely lady in the pic. Maybe, your parents did not teach you properly. Judge not lest ye be judged. She is a wonderful human being!

To Alanna: You know what's "NOT OKAY"? Your judgment towards others. I hope for your sake that you learn to grow up someday. This entire board you've created here is rather disturbing. Not because of the images, but because of your ignorance. The woman in this picture has standards. She's a mother, a proud one. She's not only strong-willed but strong-bodied and strong-minded; A few traits you could clearly take a tip from. Your parents must be so proud to have raised a daughter with the ability to pass judgment without remorse on people you have no idea about. And not only do you not know the reason for why people do the things you have posted on this board, but in an age where you literally have the world at your finger tips, you've made a conscious decision to be too lazy or too careless (your pick) to educate yourself and better appreciate the people you coexist with. You have some serious soul-searching to do, little girl. Good luck.

That's just the ones from Pinterest. I got tons of support on Twitter & FB too. It was overwhelmingly satisfying to see all the support I got in response to what amounted to bullying from what appeared to be a high school drop out. (Her FB says she "left school" in 2012, so I assume that is the new PC way to say drop out.) I say thank you to everyone who expressed their distaste for the pin & caption. If you read this and would like to comment on her pintastic judgement of me, follow any of the links above to the pin. I'll appreciate any help in convincing this girl that what she's doing just isn't cool, and in fact it's down right despicable and discriminatory!

Discrimination in any form sucks ass and shouldn't be allowed, be it derby attire, tattoos, ethnicity, or hoodies.

Seriously?!?

Son of a mutha spunkin' monkey! Had a drawer front fall off the cutlery drawer and land edge down on my big toe. It landed just perfectly right at the end of the nail bed. Holy Jebus... you'd have thought I was a trained, operatic soprano with the note  I belted out! Now it won't stop hurting. I've taken meds and I've tried elevating it, but no good. Ow ow ow ow ow! The photo was taken right after it happened, but I'm betting that by Easter morning it will be a lovely shade of bluish purple. It's already starting to turn. I can only hope that my nail doesn't fall off.
Please excuse the toe hair.

Finally... A Good Day.

Today was a good day finally.

Went to check out HHH's job prospect. He still hadn't gotten a yes or no yet about it, but being optimists we went to look at the apartments. They're frickin HUGE! Then, as we were looking at the apartments, HHH got the call that his Pee test came back ok and he was a go to start on Monday!! WHOO FUCKING HOO!  We are getting a 5 bedroom, 5 bath apartment for free. Yes, you read right... FREE. (So I have a guest room should any of you northern folks need a place to crash when visiting my fine state!!) Also free electric, free cable, fully furnished, and only $45 for water, sewer, trash disposal. Holy FUCK! HHH starts Monday, but the kids and I are staying in Valrico because FCATS are coming up. We'll be packing up while HHH is working. Then it will be off to New Port Ritchey!!

After picking out a place to call our own, (3rd floor, end building) we drove back to Tampa to take the kids to IKEA. Eldest was highly incensed we went with out her last time. You'd have thought we brought them to Disney World again. They went nuts seeing all the stuff, picking out towels, sheets, light fixtures, art, etc.... We didn't buy yet because I'm not buying any more crap till we move. No sense making it harder, right? But they got an idea of what they might want and seeing as how they will each have their own rooms, I may just indulge them. We spent the afternoon there, then came home.

Also... THIS happened!
Please excuse the cleavage shot.

Went to The Rack for Let's Eat Tampa and finally got to meet Anissa! Totally amazing person extraordinare!  She actually knew who I was even though we had never met in person before!! We chatted a bit, I sat down at at table and ordered a drink to take the edge off my nervousness, then after the crowds died down I went back and asked for a photo, to which Anissa said "Sure. $5.50 per shot!" and I busted out laughing!!!! I'd pay twice that and then some. I have never met such a positive person in my life and that said life is better for knowing her. Alas, the night wore on, some of the folks I had hoped to see weren't able to make it, and a 2 dude live band started playing. It was REALLY time to leave when a group of drunky 20 somethings started asking the two guys to do Backstreet Boys covers. So I went home knowing that Good Friday was actually going to live up to it's name! I guess passing the Jesus guy carrying the cross was lucky for us today!

Mah Bebeh RULEZ!

It was concert night tonight. Mo did me proud. I almost cried. If that is how awesome these kids sound after 7 months, they're gonna be great at the end of the year. I am so proud of my baby girl. Finally, I have a musician in the family!

Ass-Vice

  • Buy, don't rent. Unless it's a relationship..... then I suggest renting as long as possible. Buying in too quickly will only end in disappointment when the warranty wears out and you find your nice new partner isn't so nice or new anymore.
  • Trust no one. Yeah, this one is really hard, but it's really true. I've had so many folks in life tell me, "Oh don't worry." or "Trust me, I won't let you down." or "I'll make it happen, trust me. only to have things completely fall apart at usually the worst possible moment. Trust in yourself. You're the only one you can count on when the cards are dealt.
  • Blissful oblivion ain't. If you choose to ignore those nagging little voices that say everything IS NOT ok, well, you only have yourself to blame when you end up swimming in shit soup.
  • Kicking up a fuss isn't uncomfortable when it's necessary. Be it about money, love, or your place in the supermarket checkout line.... stand up for yourself. Being nice for niceness's sake is for suckers who will end up behind the lady with a full cart in the "10 Items Or Less" line.
  • It's not nagging if it's true. It is lying if you answer that nag dishonestly.
  • Keep your promises. No. Matter. What.  The bullshit feeling you get after letting friends or family down? Yeah. That's your conscience telling you you're an asshole.
  • It doesn't matter how good you are at something... people chose their employees, friends, life partners, etc based on looks. If you're the short fat old lady who has oodles of experience at a certain skill, the folks in charge are going to pick the young hot dude with the 6 pack & bulging biceps even though that guy has no idea how to even function at that skill. It will go this way for the rest of your life. Get used to it.
Yeah, not the nicest things in the world, but it needs to be said. All this nice, nice, goody, goody, love, love bullshit that people spout just isn't really true. Time to bust this shit wide open.
