What's New?

Meet Nemo. This little guy came to us through one of the roller girls. She had rescued Nemo from a pound where he had been hit by a car, then endured several painful operations from a bad vet who Frankensteined his pelvis & leg back together in a horrible conglomeration that didn't help him heal at all. Eventually, my friend had to have Nemo's rear leg removed because it never healed.

This guy is sooooooo laid back. He doesn't give crap one what's going on around him. He'll just snuggle up on your lap and ask you to pet him all day. Our yorkie, Gobo, is adjusting to another dog being in the house and Fluffy is all meh about it, but the kids are just wild about Nemo!

And from the looks of things, Nemo is wild about us!

So Hot!

I haven't had a no AC practice since SRG in Sarasota. Tonight, because our rink was destroyed in the flood, we carpooled down to SuperSkate in Pinellas to drop in on the practice there. They don't have AC for their practices.

Made it through though. Drank a crap load of Gatorade, but made it! Hot yoga got nothing on hot derby!

When I first saw the rink after TS Debby & realized our bout was going to be canceled, I was like....

Then, after letting it sink in for a while, I was like....

Then, I became resigned to it, and was all....

But then, some poor sap had to tell the rest of the girls there wasn't going to be a bout, and he was like....

Poor sap.

Disaster Makes People STUPID!

Don't believe me? Well here....

  • There are high flood waters in your neighborhood. What should you do? Well, what you shouldn't do is GO WALKING IN THE WATER!! Hello? Dumbass? If you can't see through the water, stay the hell out of it! There could be puncture hazards, tripping hazards, debris, vermin, etc in there that you can't see and CAN HURT YOU!
  • When flood waters rise, they rise everywhere, and that goes for below ground too. Storm water & sewer systems most times try to handle the excess water, but more often than not, the sudden rush of water blows the cover off the manholes and you can't see that when you're wading through the murky depths. One false step, and you can be sucked down that same hole to drown.
  • Also.... THE SEWER IS BACKED UP!! How the fuck do people not realize this??? That brown water that you're letting your child frolic in? IT'S BROWN FOR A REASON!!! OMG how gross is it that your kid or even you just splashed in your mouth water that you might possibly have flushed in your toilet the night before. Bacteria, germs, feces... just keep on splashing, just don't touch me, K?
  • Cars & water don't mix. Don't believe me? Just ask any tow truck driver that has worked in the last two days. I have seen them steadily parading by with cars, trucks, & motorcycles that tried to ford the waters and didn't make it. Also, if you do have a vehicle that can make it to the other side of the Red Sea, PLEASE SLOW DOWN. If the whole neighborhood is already flooded to the point that water is inches from the front door, speeding you truck with super swamper tires down the street making a wake that causes tidal waves isn't cool. It makes me stabby for people who are poises to lose everything.
  • Fishtailing in the closed intersection in front of the cops is just stupid, no matter what circumstances this maneuver is performed under. Period.

THIS.... is our rink.

THIS.... is how I get to the rink.

THIS.... is a car that was floated out of it's own drive way on the way to the rink.

THIS.... is the inside of the rink the last time someone was in there!

It's just craptacular! Seriously.... we have a bout & 2 practices planned this week. We may have to postpone it all & go down to Pinellas to practice at Super Skate. Sigh....

UPDATE: THIS..... is what finally ended up being the last photo of the day at Spins. Water got under the skate floor and topped out at 3 to 4 inches in the building. No word on clean up strategy yet. We have to be patient with the owners as they sort it all out.

Triple sigh......

Debby Does NPR!

Crap crap crappity crap. Bounced between 2 tornadoes, floated amongst some flooding, and dealt with the destruction of my smoker. All thanks to Tropical Storm Debby. A storm that the Weather Channel SAID was going to head west towards Texas. Well, in the span of 12 hours, it turned to Florida's Gulf Coast & we are soaking wet! Just another day in paradise I guess.

Today, after a year of not having one, HHH replaced my wedding ring. I picked this vintage/antique diamond ring.
Pardon my fat finger. I was puffy that day.
It's beautiful. White gold, round cut diamond surrounded by 4 smaller diamonds in the band. The thing that makes this ring special is the fact that it was hand crafted around 1940. The diamond was hand cut. The ring itself was planned & crafted by a single artisan. The stones were all set by hand. No computer laser cutting. No mass production. No chain jewelry store pumping out a thousand of these all across the country. I am the only woman who will wear this. And I love it!

Customer Service!

Lots of places just don't have good customer service anymore. A report was just released that listed McDonald's, Wal-Mart, and Darden as some of the top offenders. On the other hand, I received a package today that renews my faith in customer service. I ordered some Derby Skinz and when going through the online checkout, I wrote in the special instructions section, "Can you draw a Lorax on the receipt? Thanks!"

Sure enough, when my package arrived Friday, here's what I saw!

So totally awesome!!!!

I totally love making my boutfits for derby! When you have a set uniform you usually just have to remember which jersey color to wear, but when you have no set uniform AND themed bouts??

I have picked these two items for my July 1st boutfit... and the rest is just ticking along.....

Tonight Is The Night!

For me to show my ass and flip around backwards during blocking drills and then proceed to hit while skating backwards!
It was also the night for me to join the board of directors.
It was also the night I saw a HUGE poster of our bout flyer! I WANT ONE!!!! (Only cause I'm on it!)
I need to go to bed early because I need to wake up early to take Eldest to the Ortho Dr.

Good Night.

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

I felt like crap Tuesday. Couldn't sleep until midnight the night before, then HHH was making so much noise when he got up I was awakened at 7:30am. I tried to go back to sleep and just as I dozed off, HHH came in the house talking loudly on his phone & woke me up again. I couldn't win for losing!! Then I dozed off again, only to be woke up AGAIN! Finally I woke up, but I felt off. I've felt off for a while. I have a Dr. appt set up to get myself checked out. Hopefully it will be just a 40th birthday tune up.

Holy crap! I'm on the flyer for the next bout! That N-E-V-E-R happens!

How absolutely fabulous!!!

What Ever Happened To...

  • People actually following instructions?
  • When the fucking ride says NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY people put away their cameras?
  • When the ride personnel says "Go to the 3rd row." you go to that God damn row & not try to spread out over 5 other rows?
  • Common decency?
  • Not ruining other people's good times by you being a complete and utter douchebag?
  • Common decency?
We trolled around Epcot & Disney World today. We had planned on going to Universal. We even got up early & were first in line when it opened because we had seen a commercial on TV all week saying the new Minion Mayhem ride was finally open. Minion Mayhem is what they replaced the old Jimmy Neutron ride with and it has been under construction for more than a year. We unfortunately got a nasty surprise in the form of the ride NOT being open. Nope. Not open. I went looking for someone in charge and found out "someone" in the PR department had let a commercial on air ahead of "schedule" and no, the ride was still in technical rehearsals so it would not be operating. Sigh.... only reason we trekked to Orlando today dude. Highly disappointing. So we pow wowed at the sidewalk & decided to head to Disney instead. Started at Epcot, then hit up the monorail to Disney. We hit lots of fun rides, ran into lots of jerkwad people, and when the rains came, we left.

What have you been doing this weekend?

Old Lady Still Has It!

It's no secret I'm turning 40 next month. 40... that mile stone where folks start buying you the gag gifts in Spencer's that say "Over the Hill" with buzzards on them. Yeah... the big four oh. That age where your husband might decide to trade you in for two twentys.... the funny goes on and on. Then at derby practice on Thursday night we did endurance drills.

Endurance drills encompass sprinting, push ups, sit ups, crunching, turn stops, more sprinting, etc... all those skills you need when skating. Ours went something like this...

  1. Toestop takeoff into a sprint.
  2. Stop & do 10 leg lifts.
  3. Jump up and sprint.
  4. Stop & do 10 push ups.
  5. Jump up and sprint.
  6. Stop & do 10 crunches.
  7. Jump up and sprint.
  8. Turnstop at the back wall & sprint home.
Whew! I get tired just thinking about it. We did it as a race. Half of us on one side, half on the other. I blew everyone out of the water!!! I didn't believe it till we took water and did the race again and I was fastest again!!! Good lord!

I guess this old gal still has some ups then!!

I jammed tonight at our demo!!!

If you know me, you know I am a blocker & a head hunter. I don't jam. I'm a little slow, kinda plodding at times, but I use it to my advantage when I block. Kinda lull the other blockers into a false sense of security and then when I need to move someone out of the way.... BAM!!!! Yeah, that's my M.O. At the demo, we worked with 3 on 3, 2 blockers, 1 jammer, and made sure to give the crowd (Who really could have cared less) a good show. I don't think they realized this chunky, almost 40 year old lady doesn't ever move that fast!!!!

Guess I need to work on my speed for the future, huh?

Monday, June 4, 2012

The rink washed their floor for our league..... the hour before practice. It was a wonderful gesture, and after a slew of end of the year school skate parties where little bastards take gum & candy out onto the floor and lay little land mines for your wheels, it was most definitely needed, but the timing could have been better. It hadn't dried and there were pockets of water "sprinkled" all over the floor. Wet track is my kryptonite. I had the worst fall of my career when I slipped on someone's shitty ass sprite/slurpee spill and I refuse to repeat the process.

Ya'll know what I'm talking about....right??

Go ahead....

Ask away! You know you want to!!

You don't take my husband to go do a myriad of tests, deposit him back in his room for the next 5+ hours, and expect me to not get pissed off because no one has come to tell us what the results were! You especially don't get to tell me not to be unhappy when the results have been in for the last 4+ hours, but the Doctor left work early for the weekend so no one is around to explain the results to us. Yes, I will be angry. No I will not calm down until you find me someone who will explain what the fuck is going on with my husband's brain! Milking our insurance may be ok for you and your cohorts, after all you have that brand spankin' new hospital to pay for, but he will not be comfortable until I can get him home, so SOMEONE better get their ass in gear and get him diagnosed, medicated, & discharged ASAP!
I shit you not when I say bullshit will not be tolerated. I don't give a damn if you did go to college for a gazillion years longer than I did. When you leave good folks hanging in the wind after seeing their loved ones almost perish in front of them, you will be treated like the asshat you are till proven otherwise.
Now.... GET TO WORK!
