Pyro

It has officially started. Summer in Florida. I know this because it rains every afternoon/evening. It rains HARD! And along with that rain comes the lightning. And the wind. And the wall rattling thunder!

Yesterday, I was taking a shower and while I was shaving my legs, there was this HUGE flash of light! Blinding light. At first I thought HHH had snuck into the bathroom and was taking naughty photos of me as he is wont to do occasionally. I yelled WTH loudly, and peeked out the curtain to see...... nothing. No HHH. Then I heard the BOOM! Loud enough to get me OUT of the shower immediately!

Now, don't get me wrong... I love the rain and storms. I am a weather geek. I take my camera and go outside when the weather gets bad. I took pictures and video of hail, lightning, high winds, and flooded streets. I watch the weather channel like a goob when something is going on weather wise, and I love the movie "Twister" on a stormy night... in surround sound! But when I'm in a plastic cube, with water sluicing down on me from a metal shower head, I get my white ass outta the shower! And that wasn't the last of the pyrotechnics for that night either. It went on into the evening, loud and proud! Yep....

Summer has arrived.

KA-BOOM!

D'oh!

HHH brought something to my attention that had apparently slipped my mind....

I have to add Mr. Bun to the side bar.

I guess I was waiting to see if he'd like us. Just testing the waters, so to speak. Note I said if HE liked US. Lots of people get a pet suddenly, on a whim. They don't research the breed, don't look into the long run costs of care and upkeep, don't look into the temperament of the animal to see if it would be a good fit. Not so with me and my family. Mostly me though......

When HHH said we were going to be taking home the foundling rabbit, I immediately got on line and Wiki'd the breed of rabbit, I found out about their diet, exercise, snacking habits, cage requirements, the whole she-bang! Then I went out and got fresh food, orchard grass, gnawing toys, and bedding. For the first week, it was a little sketchy. We were basically trying to fatten Mr. Bun up from the almost starving end he barely escaped. After that, we just let him be and hoped he would like us. Now, he's not like a puppy, but after a few weeks Mr. Bun has warmed up to us. Heck, the other day I had him out and exercising in the evening after I got home from work and I walked up to me bedside and suddenly, I had a bunny licking my foot. Surprised the hell out of me. I basically took it as his way of saying I was ok.

So here we go..... Welcome to the family Mr. Bun!

Thank You For Being A Friend.

I don't have a lot of friends.

In real life.

At. All.

Sounds weird, but ever since leaving high school, I have always been sort of a loner. I had two really good friends in high school, then after graduation and moving on to college,...... zip. It was strange. I knew I wasn't one of the popular kids growing up, but it didn't bother me that much. I sort of believed in quality over quantity. I grew up in a very small town, so I got to know the kids I went to school with well over the years. You knew what to expect. It wasn't like that in the real world.

College was an experiment in the new. New people, new places, new life! I was trying to fit in as best as one could. I was in the marching band (yes, a band geek.), and I attended parties and study groups. Still, I didn't really make any lasting friendships with anyone. Most of the girls I made friends with in my residence hall and classes kind of faded or ditched me all together after a few months. I started thinking that maybe I wasn't using enough deodorant or something till I stepped back and saw that the same thing was happening to everyone. OK, no biggie..... moving on.

After collage, I tried to make friends, and I learned people are never to be taken at face value. I had people who would be so great to my face, then stab me in the back as soon as I turned around. I had people steal from me, take advantage of my good nature, and use me till they didn't need me then dump me. It was an awesome lesson. I had to drop my Pollyanna view of people. Ya know, those guidance counselors really do us a disservice in school saying the world is an oyster waiting for us.... they forgot to tell us about all the garbage strewn around the oyster beds!

Now, being the boss at work and having to move around with HHH's job, friendships are even harder to come by. Can't really be neighborly because something may happen and we'll have to move. The girls at work have been finding me on Facebook too, but I have been avoiding that trap like syphilis. Never, never, never NEVER mix work and home. Not a good thing.

That brings me to the internet. I luvz me some internet buddies. It sounds sad, but you guys remember my birthday, anniversary, (w/the help of facebook.), and even helped me through the sadness that was my puppy dying. Weird that a real human can let me down, but digital people can bring me right back up. And while I can really only count two good friends since my days in school, I can count so many now in a friends list and smile.

(insert goofy grin here.)

That is a poster I ordered from Snapfish. It's made of pure awesome! How did I get such an awesome idea you ask? Well, I got it with my Coke Rewards points. See, we drink a shit load of coke in this house. Probably loads more than we should. And in every box of soda there is a code you can enter to get points. I rack up a LOT of points. Thousands in fact. You can trade these points in for stuff. I got HHH a skin for his Blackberry. I got Rebecca a few magazine subscriptions, and I got myself a kick ass poster. It's 16 x 20, and made of awesomesauce. I am hoping to get the poster in in a few days and take it to my boy, Chad, at Sir Speedy Printing and see if he can't make more of them for me. Then maybe I could do a give away here. Either or.... It's cool. LOVE. IT!!!

Sock It Too Me!

Ever since I started derby, I started amassing knee socks.
I seem to favor argyle, but I have started getting other ones as well.
These are the socks HHH got me for our anniversary. They totally rock. Pink yet evil.... just right for derby. Right now I have about 7 pair or more of knee and thigh high socks. The thigh highs come in handy to help wick away sweat around the knee pad area. Now, this is no where NEAR Bluepaintred's sock collection, but we all have to start somewhere!

Haiku On Wheels

Wheels rolling forward,
Sweating, pushing, hitting hard,
Working for the win.

Fishnets, skirts, and wheels,
Flirting with danger quickly,
Kick ass, fast beauty.

What haiku can YOU make for roller derby?

Um... Still Owwie!

So I may have tweaked my shoulder pretty good at the bout. While I may not have separated it, it is pretty darn sore. I was texting and IM-ing with several people who are in the medical field, and the general consensus was tendinitis in my rotator cuff from a really hard hit. Actually, it was probably several hits that just finally culminated in one big owwie at the end of the bout. Oh well.... no pain, no gain.

There was a point Monday that I was cursing up a storm at work because the pain was radiating down my elbow through to my fingers. It was ridiculous! Then it started to ease off finally. I think I will ply it liberally with Tylenol again,..... and maybe a cherry slushie from Sonic laced with vodka. Heh.....

And last but not least, I made a little TV time at the bout apparently. One of the lovely ladies I skated with, the awesome Texas ToastHer, is involved with Mote Marine here in Sarasota. She was doing a short(10 second) piece for the local TV news about how we were donating $1 from every adult ticket to the Gulf Recovery that Mote was coordinating. Right after the interview with her, you see a shot of us skating and I actually made an awesome hit that cleared one of the ATL girls to the floor!!! I actually look like I know what I'm doing! Who knew?? anywhoo.... here's the link to it...

So now.... I am going to do a few shots and head to bed. Loooooong practice tomorrow deconstructing all our mistakes from Saturday!

Painful

Me at the half.
Star Spangled Banner.
Trying to break up the ATL wall to get our jammer through.
Coming around turn 1.
Our team!

We basically got our asses handed to us. No one told me ATL was league champ 3 years running! Holy shit! And some of them were on the team for 10 years! I may have either rotator cuff or nerve damage in my right shoulder. Also I am tired as hell. I am going to ply myself liberally with jello shots and tylenol and get to bed early.

NAP TIME!

Such A Tease....

A month or so back, I had a give away on my blog the the fabulous Bubblewench won. She received a neat-o steak brand! Now it's my turn.

The same company asked if I'd do a review this time. I love this place. It has a site for everything. If I didn't like going out and shopping in person so much, I could just go there and never have to leave the house!

As you know, we just moved.....AGAIN..... and in the process we have seen all kinds of things. I am forever decorating the places we have lived and the bathroom in the master is the size of a postage stamp. It's cute, but tiny. One of the ways to help with that would be to put in a different vanity. Something a little smaller so there was more room. Wouldn't ya know CSN has a vanity site too? Yep.

So I'm not sure what I'm going to review yet, but it will have something to do with us moving into the new home!

Stay tuned......

What the...

HHH and I went out to get a couple of shakes. There's a Steak and Shake not too far from the new house and it was just a quick drive down to it. BIG MISTAKE!! problem #1:We get to the drive thru and there are 4 cars in front of us even before you get to the order box. Problem #2: It takes us 20 minutes to even get to the order box. Problem #3: We finally get to the order box and the woman snaps out that we have to wait a moment. So we wait and wait and wait some more. Problem #4: Lady comes back after the long wait and asks us to wait SOME MORE! WTF?!?

I say out to the speaker box, "But we've been waiting for 15 minutes already!" to which the bitch snaps back, "We we a little backed up in heyah. Ai guess ah'll take yo order now then."

Oh no.

HHH goes ahead and orders what we want, tells the woman about our coupon and then proceeds to try and order our shakes...... and they're out of the one I want. Now normally that wouldn't matter and I'd just order another flavor, but after waiting a grand total of about a half hour just to get the one thing I really wanted, we just said fuck it and left. HHH said never mind and as we were driving off the woman actually had the nerve to ask, "You mean you want me to cancel the whole order?"

Nah...... We'll be back after we go to Publix and get some cookies since you're out of them. Just keep waiting.....

And waiting.... and waiting.....

Meet Lucky

This is Lucky. He is our new pet rabbit. Lucky was found at HHH's apartments in an empty unit where someone had skipped. They took all their stuff, and left Lucky there without telling someone. Assholes. Lucky is thin, has sickles for toenails, and was scared of everything. I went out and bought rabbit food enriched with vitamins, sweet hay for his digestions, and some chewing stuff for his teeth. We also got him some fresh fruit and leafy green veggies.

So now we have three pets. Fluffy, Gobo, and Lucky.

Welcome to the madness buddy!

Trouble

Oh I'm in trouble now.

In last weeks post there were two snazzy flyers announcing that the "green" company was nominated in two categories for the Natties. That is the local natural awards given out by our local natural and organic magazine here in Sarasota. I called up Boss Lady and gave her the good news....

Me: "So we were nominated in two catagories this year! Think we'll add to the two Natties we already have?"

Boss Lady: "I can't see why not."

Me: "So when is your flight coming in so I can pick you up at the airport and you can go schmooze at the awards dinner with all the awesome and cool Organic and Natural people?"

Boss Lady: "Um.... I can't make it. How about you go?"

Me: "Uh.... (cough, cough....)"

See, I'm not really great in the social thing. Yeah I can be a kick ass Diva at derby, but that me being a whole different side of you don't even wanna know. When it comes to actually meeting new people, making small talk, and doing the glad-handing business thing.....I SUCK! Need I remind everyone of the Avitoween debacle of 2009?!? Yeah, I was such a wreck at that thing it was pathetic. Add to that I have no style and good Lord,.... we are in for a nightmare.

The awards are next Tuesday. I have already RSVP'ed and chose the Miso Salmon for dinner. Is there anyone out there with even an ounce of style that can help a poor schmo like me??

Pretty please??

Really?!?

I was so tired tonight I fell asleep on HHH while having sex.

Time to sleep.

Nuff said.

Work Ethic

I like to think that I have a good work ethic. I learned it from my parents. Go to work every day unless you're dying, do an above average job, and never do anything to lose the respect of your bosses or co-workers. It's an ethic that has served me well. Almost every job I have had, I had for years. One job I had for 4 years, the next one for 7, the one after that for 5, etc, etc.....

Now that I am a boss again, I am really amazed at the work ethic of others. Some of the girls that work with me have the same ethic as I do, yet some of the others ..... I just don't know about. One of the girls started out great over a year ago, but now, everything takes precedent over her job. She refuses to find child care for after school and ends up leaving her job early. She also has no one to bring her child to school in the morning and then has to show up late. This early/late stuff is shortening her hours and subsequently her partners hours, and that lady ain't happy. If that wasn't enough, SHE'S A TEAM LEADER! She is supposed to be leading her team for cleaning, yet, being late and leaving early makes this impossible. The last few weeks she has been complaining about her paycheck being small. Um... well come to work. DUH!!! And I'm not being a heartless bitch about it either. This has been going on for 3 months now. She's had 3 months to deal with this situation, yet hasn't. I can only be kind so long.... then I have to put the company ahead of the person.

Summer vacation starts for her kid this Wednesday. She just informed me that she has no child care AGAIN for Thursday and Friday even though she has known about school getting out on that date for the ENTIRE year! I have to have the sit down with her this week and tell her that she has the summer to get her shit straight for next school year. If she can't work it out, she can't work for us anymore. Having been someone who was out of work before, I really don't want to put someone in that position, especially a single mother, but I can't keep catering to her schedule anymore. The other girls are getting pissed off at the preferential treatment, and I can no longer put the needs of one above the needs of many.

Not that this post solved anything, but I had to get it off my chest.

Annnnnnnnd Done..... For Now.

And we are done moving ...... for the moment. See, we moved everything that we had at the temporary place into the new house, got curtains up to combat the Florida summer heat, and got all the boxes unpacked. We're going to tackle the storage unitnet weekend when HHH isn't on call at the property. After all that moving, it was waiting for the Bright House to show and get the TV and internet installed. Guy shows up, stuff gets installed, service addy is transferred and there we go.

Then two hours later.... no internet.

Bright House hasn't been too bright. When we were at the temp place, the HD box we had on the bedroom TV would need a total reboot EVERY SINGLE TIME WE TURNED IT ON!!! Ugh, talk about annoying. Now we have the internet being all flakey?!? It almost makes me wish for Comcast.

So now I am sooooooo tired, my knee is aching, (bursitis), and I am dozing off in my easy chair. Tomorrow I'll put up photos of the house.

Later.

ZZZzZzzzZZZZzzZZzZZZ.....

U-Haul

Yet again I am boxing up what small part of my life I had at the temporary place and taking it to the new house today. HHH and I have no help for that today. All his friends and my friends are busy. Then again, how many times can you call on someone to move you? I think it's limited to one or two.

Sigh.......

How Do I Do It?

Someone asked me a very good question tonight at derby practice.

"If you have Celiac's disease, what the hell were you doing at Krystal's the other night like it said in your Facebook status?"

Well.....when you have Celiac's you kinda have to adjust things a little when you go out with the family for dinner. The non Celiacers in this family out number me and Mo 3 to 2. Most chain large restaurants have a gluten free menu now, and even if they didn't, most places have grilled meat and steamed veggies. That's easy. Now going out to eat fast food is TOTALLY different. Here's what usually happens.....

Them: "Hello this is Generic Burger Joint, may I take your order?"

Me: "Yes please. I'd like a 1/4 lb burger meal with no bun, and the cheese burger kids meal with no bun, then a #1 and two #2's please."

Them: "Uh... what was that again?"

ME: "I need a 1/4 lb burger meal with OUT the bun and a kids meal with OUT the bun, then a #1 and two #2's."

The,: "What do you mean no bun?"

Me: I mean no bun. My daughter and I are allergic to gluten and we can't eat the bun without becoming ill."

Them: "No way!!!???"

Me: "Yes way."

Them: "Really??"

Me: "Really."

Them: "Man, that has to really suck huh?"

Me: "Yep. Thanks for mentioning that. My daughter and I just love it."

Them: "Cough... cough.... uh, let me get that order up for you. Would you like any funnel cake sticks or apple pie with that?"

Me: "Sigh........"

And it goes on like that. A lot of times, if I know ahead that the place has brain dead morons working there, I'll just order the damn meal and remove the bread myself. It gets old, but I think back a few years to when no one knew what the hell Celiac's disease even was and I get over it. Sometimes I get a really sympathetic manager or something and I get my burger fresh made in a little container with a knife and fork! Whoo hoo for days like that, but most times if I'm in a hurry, I just get a large fries and a coke. Potato and drink, can't go wrong there.

God I miss a greasy burger with a nice fluffy bun though.

I Need Help.

Ok, so yesterday's post was about how the oil hasn't gotten here yet. I also mentioned that the next SRG bout on June 19th was going to donate $1 of every adult ticket is going to be donated to the relief efforts being orchestrated by the Mote Marine Laboratory.

Here's where you come in......

I know a lot of you have blogs, Twitters, Facebooks, etc... Do me, SRG, and the ocean a favor and link, retweet, and like this post. We want to sell out the arena so we can give the maximum amount of ca$h to the relief effort. The thought of those animals covered in the sickly, gooey tar/oil makes me physically sick.

Copy the picture up top, link to this post, and help the Sarasota Roller Girls kick ass against the ATL Toxic Shocks!!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Hmmm....

So far, there has been no oil, tar balls, or slicks on our beaches.

The oil is still gushing.

Mote Marine Center is taking in any wildlife that has been affected and makes it this far. We, the ladies (and I use the term loosely) of the Sarasota Roller Girls are going to help as well. At our next bout, we are going to donate $1 from every ticket sold to the relief efforts and clean up. Now.... if we sell out, that equals about $1200!!! Awesome, right?

HELL YES IT IS!!!!!

So go here and buy many, many tickets. And all you blog buddies out there who have been promising to come to a bout, well here's a way you can see us play and help out!!

DO IT!!!!
